Central Florida Bike Trails
If you love the outdoors and are looking for a safe and convenient place for cycling, rollerblading, jogging or even a leisurely walk, you'll find what you need in Central Florida. Criss-crossing our community is a network of several beautifully maintained trails for public use. I thought I would take a moment to highlight a few of them.
Cross Seminole Trail
Beautiful, lengthy and perfect for a variety of activities, this paved recreational trail has been designated one of Seminole County's Showcase Trails. Currently, the Cross Seminole Trail is comprised of two 9.8 mile long sections running from downtown Oviedo to Lake Mary. When the trail is completed it will run 24 miles and will be part of the Florida National Scenic Trail, a 1300-mile trail running from the Florida panhandle to the Everglades.
Cady Way Trail
Opened in 1994, the Cady Way Trail has become a favorite for bikers, joggers and skaters. It runs from the Fashion Square Mall near downtown Orlando, to Cady Way Park in Winter Park. The trail passes the former Orlando Naval Training Center, as well as residential areas, a golf course and a memorial garden. Certain portions of the trail are completely covered by a full tree canopy, providing some shade and relief on those hot summer days. Cady Way Trail will eventually connect into the network of trails that includes the Cross Seminole Trail.
Seminole Wekiva Trail
The Seminole Wekiva Trail was built on what was once the longest railway in the country, the Orange Belt Railway. It currently runs 14 paved miles through Lake Mary, Longwood and Altamonte Springs and connects to the Cross Seminole Trail via the I-4 Trail Overpass in Heathrow. This will become part of a proposed network that will run 40 continuous miles, connecting the cities of Seminole County to the Orange County trails system.
Rinehart Road/Crossings Trail
This trail in Lake Mary will eventually play a big part in connecting the Cross Seminole Trail and the Seminole Wekiva Trail to a network of trails that will cover all of Central Florida. Presently, its 3.6 miles of paved path connects local neighborhoods with several major shopping areas on Lake Mary Boulevard.
West Orange Trail
This paved trail runs from Winter Garden to Apopka. It offers five convenient trailheads and five outposts along its beautifully scenic 22-mile length. For the Central Florida horse lover, the West Orange Trail also includes 10 miles of equestrian trails, perfect for a weekend ride.
These are just a few of the many biking and walking trails located in our beautiful community. No matter where you choose to own a home, you can count on being a short distance from any one of these convenient and scenic paths.
