Choosing the Right Yard for You
In the Orlando area, it is pretty rare to find a home on a lot of 2 acres or more. If you do find one, you are most likely going to spend over $300,000, sometimes for the lot alone. It gets a little easier in the outer areas of Orange and Seminole counties. For most people, a lot that is a 1/4 acre or so is just right, especially those looking for a home a little closer to town or in a subdivision.
There are also many communities in Central Florida with zero lot line properties. Usually a zero lot line property allows for the house to be built very close to the property line that results in little or no available yard. One such community is Sausalito, in Casselberry. At Sausalito, they did a great job when they designed their zero lot line properties. They have a small back yard and a small side yard. The lot sizes here are about 50x100 and for many people that is just perfect. I lived in one of these homes in Sausalito for years and I thought it was great. It took about a half hour to cut the grass, trim and edge, and that left the rest of the weekend for other things (like jet skiing on Lake Howell)!
Yard size is a personal preference when it comes to choosing a new home. Many people want a large yard for their kids and animals to play in, while many want a smaller, more relaxing yard that they can easily tend to on the weekends. A real estate agent can help you decide which choice is best for you and your family, and help you find only those homes that meet your needs.
