Working With Stone
If you are considering renovating anyplace in your home - especially the kitchen or bathroom - it might be a good idea to consider stone. Stone can add a sense of luxury to any home. It's long-lasting, low-maintenance, and beautiful. And it is very much in style right now, increasing your home's appeal and resale value.
If you are renovating your floor you have an enormous variety of stone flooring to choose from. The challenge will be deciding which choice is right for you, but with a good understand of your budget and needs, it can be fun to go through all the options - from stone to ceramic to terra cotta to glass to metal. The type and variety of tile that you choose will depend on the vision you have for your home. Do you want to be delicate and subtle or do you want to make a bold statement whenever a guest walks into the room? Do you have kids and pets and would prefer terra cotta to disguise spills and dirt? Or do you want the opulent luxury that only marble can give you? Whatever your taste or needs, you should have no problem finding a stone flooring to suit them.
When choosing a flooring, pay close attention to color. Remember that white will show dirt and footprints more easily. Warmer, lighter tones will radiant a natural warmth and keep your rooms from looking too dark.
Another popular use of stone in the home is for granite countertops. They are extremely easy to clean and, once properly sealed, will stay stain-free. If you keep it clean and remember to reapply the sealant every couple years, your granite countertop will last you a lifetime.
Whether you're looking at counters or flooring, adding stone to your home always adds a beautiful and classy touch to your decor.
