Also, since most houses for sale are listed with a Realtor, it gives the buyers the maximum number of available homes to consider. The buyer's Realtor should have access to the multiple listing service (MLS), giving them access to see all available homes listed by realtors.
Finding the right agent is important since your relationship must be based on trust and mutual goals and understanding. There are some important questions to ask an agent before working with them.
- How long have you been an agent?
- Are you a full time agent?
- Are you familiar with the area we want to look in?
- How much business have you had in the last couple of years, or how many homes have you sold?
- How long have you resided in the area?
A buyer should be prepared before going out to choose a home. It's a good idea to talk to a lender and prequalify for a loan first. Talking to a mortgage professional will help you know what price range to look in, and what you can afford. Then decide on your minimum requirements such as number of bedrooms and baths, square footage or size, location of home, lot size etc.
Along with your needs, you should consider deciding on other things you may or may not want, like for example a fireplace, a pool or a garage. Know what type of home you may be interested in. Being prepared and knowing what you would like will save you and your realtor a lot of time and will help to narrow down the search.
